So... What is RVA R+W?
A social group that fosters community and promotes literary arts through book clubs, writers groups, and more.
RVA R+W can be anything from your found family that you see at writing group three times a week to a place you visit every few months during online bookclub.
What kind of books do you guys read?
Anything! We are genre-spanning and always looking to expand our library of options and hope that you'll help us develop a more well rounded set of options by adding titles to our "Want to Read" list on the bookclubs app!
Is there a membership fee or subscription cost to be a part of the book club or writers group?
Nope, there's zero financial commitment to attend book clubs or the writers group.
We are working on an optional subscription for members to receive additional benefits like exclusive newsletters and items like totebags to support the costs of the group.
Is there a membership process?
There is no formal membership process, but access to our page on the Bookclubs app does require you to answer three easy questions before being "accepted." This is because there are sometimes home addresses posted here when book clubs are hosted at a residence, so we want to have control over who is seeing that.
Events which require RSVP are listed on the Bookclubs app, so this website requirement to RSVP would be the only thing that constitutes "membership," but there is no mandatory subscription or application fee or anything like that.
We do have an optional "Members Form", which helps us gauge the interests of the group and interact on a more 1:1 basis as needed when requesting volunteers for various events, but this is a loose title, not a true "roster" of members.
Who is this club for?
Adult humans! (And sometimes dogs, but that was for a specific event). We aim to reflect the diverse makeup of Richmond within our community and work hard to welcome all.
Note: Overnight event attendees must be 21 on or before the first day of the event.
Do I need to bring a friend or can I come alone?
If we're being honest, most of our club members didn't know anyone in the group the first time that they joined for a writers group or book club!

Yes! You can subscribe here.
Can my kids come with me to events?
This one is totally up to you and your discretion. We are more than open to it and always want to be accessible, but can't promise a kid-friendly environment at every event. Some events are not going to be well suited to certain kids, such as silent reading, while others might love it!
I'm an author or publishing representative of a book that is already published (trad, indie, etc.). How do I get a book considered by your book club or apply for an interview?
I'm a writer but my work isn't published yet. Do you interview unpublished writers?

Do you sell books?
We don't sell books directly but you can support us financially by shopping through our affiliate links at places like Bookshop.org and LibroFM.
Do you use AI?
Nope. Everything is straight from a human brain. From our website design and actual creation to our book club discussion questions to our social media graphics, we do not use generative AI.
