New: IG Live author interviews, the first is Thursday, May 21st at 7pm with Fiona Fenn and will be transcribed for the blog.

Get involved: Our members form has been updated with some new questions. You can fill it out or update it if you've completed it before.

A slightly longer message, if you're interested:

Hey folks,

Quick intro if you're new here: Hi! I'm Breelyn and all of the words in this email are my own. All of our content is coming from me, unless otherwise stated, like in interviews and some book reviews (and none of it is AI). I am the human behind RVA R+W alongside the help of several lovely friends. I'm passionate about the conversations that happen when we read alongside others with whom we share nothing in common- I am so glad you're here.

The past couple of months of my own life has been wild! From buying a house (check it out for the movie night!) to bookish events for three weekends in a row (two of them being my own!) to having my identity thefted (I have to say it in a funny way so that I don't cry!), life has been a lot. Mostly in the best ways.

I cannot give a big enough thank you to the people who made all of those events happen. Logan, Kaitlyn with TBR Shelf, Rosa with VisArts (who is one of two new Richmond poet laureates, by the way), Lindy, Jason, Iris, Makinna, Ron, Richard, and Melissa, and many more- you're truly the best!

This month's book clubs open the door to conversations that could last for days, and I can't wait for you to read my favorite memoir of all time - The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton. The plans that are in the works for this summer and the rest of the year are coming together and I can't wait to make some announcements later this month.

I'd love to hear from you guys about what you're loving, not loving, looking for, and any other ideas or feedback that you have either via email to rvareaders@gmail.com or through our members form.

Much love to all,

Breelyn

Looking Ahead

Upcoming this Month:

  • Our first-ever IG Live interview with author Fiona Fenn, whose debut novel was one of our book club picks back in November 2024. The sequel, out later this year, will be just one of many discussion topics! Join us and drop your questions in the chat for the audience portion at the end of the interview.

  • Full-length book reviews are coming this month, along with our first-ever poet interview which will be out later this week.

  • Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 8 is releasing on May 12th and we'll be celebrating with a game night! Location TBD, stay tuned.

In the Coming Season:

  • More outdoor book clubs!

  • Pool party book club will be back!

  • Another silent reading party and perhaps a sip and read?

Ideas and Updates:

  • We are looking at plans for this year's Readers Retreat. If you're interested in assisting with the planning process, please indicate this under the "get involved" section on our members form

  • Missed a bookclub but want to hear all of the discussion? Reach out to us and we can provide you a link to the recording!

Get Involved:

  • I'd suggest filling out our members form, checking out our social media group chats, and reading more about our community on our website and by reading our FAQs. I'm always learning more about how to make our events more easily searchable and understood, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask by emailing us at rvareaders@gmail.com.

  • If you're interested in supporting us financially, you can do so with a one time donation through Venmo to @rvareadersandwriters. We'll have more information available in the coming weeks regarding more options.

Looking Back

Our first-ever Spring Social was a hit- perhaps it's time to turn this into a quarterly event instead of only twice a year?

Our picnic book club at LIbby Hill for Junie might've ended in gray skies- but it was a lovely evening nonetheless.
